The Problem
The National University of Singapore is looking to improve the campus experience of students, staff, and visitors. In partnership with Vizzio Technologies which specializes in building digital twin models, they are looking to develop an all-encompassing navigation app with both indoor and outdoor navigation features. My challenge was to identify the pain point in NUS’ campus navigation and propose an app design that addresses the pain points using Vizzio’s unique 3D scanning technologies.
Solution and Goals
When I started my research, I was looking to create an app that is intuitive and convenient to use. NUS has developed various apps for navigation, such as NUS Next Bus and NUS Campus Explorer. But these apps have limited function and are not optimal in interface design. My goal was to create a product that will become an all-in-one campus assistant for all users. The app should be able to curate all relevant information regarding the school, from navigation information, bus information, building descriptions, opening hours, reviews and more. Students, staff, and tourists can not only use the app to navigate the campus, but also learn about the history and discover the happenings.
